St Michael's win Carragher Cup!
Mon 30 Mar 2015St Michael's PS boys won the coveted Carragher Cup in style at The Dub Arena on Tuesday evening last. A magnificent first on two fronts (i) the first Cuman na mBunscoil final to be played under floodlights and (ii) St Michael's PS first Carragher Cup win
After having defeated St Therese de Lisieux PS, Gaelscoil na Bhfal PS, and St Brides PS in the qualifying group matches, St Michael's went on to win over a well organised Good Shepherd PS team in the semi-final on a scoreline of 1-7 to 0-2
In the Cuman na mBunscoil final on Tuesday night, St Michael's PS came up against a strong Oliver Plunkett PS who themselves had notched up some impressive wins on route to the final
Having lost the toss (including having to turn their jerseys inside out due to a colour clash) and having to play against the breeze in the first half, things may have been looking ominous for the St Michael's boys. However they took to the task in hand, taking the game to their opponents with impressive possession football into the wind and finished the half in the ascendancy on a scoreline of 1-7 to 0-4
In the opening period of the second half Oliver Plunkett PS started very sprightly and scored the first point. However the St Michael's boys took control of the game scoring an impressive 3-7 without reply
Peter, in goals, was the star of the show with some magnificent, point blank, saves and was rightly awarded the 'man of the match'
In defence, Peter, Rory, Michael, Cormac and Finn gallantly defended their goals and were continually the launching pad for some adventurous St Michaels attacking play
In midfield Rory (captain) and Jarlath (vice-captain) were magnificent, ably controlling the game, covering every part of the large pitch from defence to the full forward line
In attack, Mathew, Emmet, Oisin, Patrick, Senan and Noah consistently tormented the Oliver Plunkett PS defence with tenacious play, accurate free taking and wonderful point taking from distance
St Michaels panel and scorers: Peter O, Peter G, Michael, Rory, Cormac (0-2), Finn, Jarlath (1-2), Rory (0-3), Mathew, Oisin, Emmet (2-7), Patrick, Senan and Noah (1-0) -
