Wowie, what a busy January we have had!
We are very happy to have a new assistant in our class called Leah. She has been helping us to make our sugar cube castle. We can’t wait to show you the finished product! We are also enjoying lots of other ‘Frozen’-themed play such as painting with ice cubes and building with ‘snow’ blocks.
With such cold, winter weather, we decided to make some bird feed for the birds that exist around our school.
We are enjoying using our school grounds to help develop our Numeracy skills.
We have been collecting items to show different ways of making the number 7.
As part of our work on length, we enjoyed collecting items and ordering them in terms of shortest-longest. We also measured how long they were back in our classroom.
We have been working hard on our number formation by using practical resources and also on adding two numbers together. Our Numicon has been especially helpful.
During World Around Us we have been enjoying lots of science experiments.
We made a ‘snow storm’ in a jar by adding fizzy tablets to a mixture of oil and watery paint.
We investigated the safest colour of coat to wear during the dark, winter weather
We explored the most effective ways to speed up the melting process through our ‘Frozen hands’ experiment
We also enjoyed the experiments that some pupils brought in to show us.
We were delighted to welcome parents into our class as part of Science week.
Mr O’Conaire talked about his job as a radiologist. He showed us X-Rays of different parts of the body and even gave Naomi and Miss Mulholland a quiz at the end!
Dr. Hanratty talked about gases in our bodies and all around us. We loved listening to our tummies and hearts with the stethoscopes, pulling party poppers under water and investigating how vinegar and bicarbonate of soda interact in a balloon!!
Mrs Bennett talked to us about her job as an ecologist. We loved looking at insects under the microscope and especially learning all about different creatures that exist in our woodlands and countryside.
During our PE we were delighted to welcome Lesley and Vicky from the RISE team who did some Yoga with us. We loved developing our core strength, balance and co-ordination.
We hope you enjoy looking at all our photographs!
