Casting Call and Book Signing for the Eighth Round Feature Film

The Europa Hotel

October 14, 15 and 16th

11:00 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Summary for Print:

Former boxer Zeke Wilson will be at the Europa Hotel on October 14, 15 and 16 signing copies of his best-selling book, “The Eighth Round.”  Additionally, he will be holding an open casting call for the film of the same title, currently in pre-production to begin filming soon in locations across the United Kingdom, including Belfast.

Mr. Wilson will be holding auditions in England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and The Republic of Ireland to find extras and actors for parts in his movie, as well as scouting for production locations.

Most notably, Mr. Wilson will be casting the part of both his younger and older self.  The actor being sought should be approximately 1.9 metres in height, weigh roughly 17 stones, and be muscular in build.  The actor sought should be of the coloured race with the ability to speak in an American accent.

"The Eighth Round," published in 2009, was written by Zeke Wilson, a former heavyweight boxer, boxing promoter and Marine born on St. Helena Island, South Carolina.  The book describes the events as they unfolded, eventually leading to a court battle.  Now, this incredible personal tale is making its way to the big screen in a feature film of the same title.

Wilson won the landmark case against the Massachusetts state sports commission headed by a black chairman, Wilbert McClure, the man who charged Wilson $10,000 to host his boxing events, double that of his white counterparts.  Wilson was awarded $160,000 in compensatory and punitive damages, leading to a permanent change in boxing legislation and setting a precedent for same-race discrimination.

"We all have our ghosts, we all do our own fighting," said Wilson, who successfully convinced an all-white jury that he suffered same race discrimination.  "If this case that I won can help somebody over the hump with something they're trying to do in life, that'll be a good thing."
